On Saturday, 6 December 2014, the Law Society of Singapore (“LSS”) hosted the Inaugural Tripartite Volleyball Games 2014 in Singapore involving the LSS, the Law Society of Hong Kong (“LSHK”) and the Malaysian Bar. The Malaysian Bar volleyball team comprised of 14 players and included John Chan, an Associate in MWKA and one of several new faces in the Malaysian Bar line-up.

The Games were held at the Ministry of Education, Sports & Recreation Club’s Multipurpose Hall at Evans Road, Singapore and commenced with the first match between the LSHK against the Malaysian Bar. The Malaysian Bar, in bright orange, fielded different teams of six for each set and unfortunately lost the match to LSHK 2 – 0. The second match between the LSS and the LSHK followed and had plenty of nail-biting moments. The match went on to a tie-breaker and at the end was won by LSS with a score of 2 – 1. The third and final match was between two fierce rivals, the Malaysian Bar and the LSS. This match also went on to a nervous rubber set and the Malaysian Bar emerged victorious against a strong and resistant LSS team 2 – 1.

In the end, the LSHK was crowned champions while the LSS and the Malaysian Bar took 2nd and 3rd place respectively. The day ended with a sumptuous seafood dinner providing an opportunity for the players to mingle and create new bonds of friendship. Everyone is already looking forward to the 2nd Tripartite Volleyball Games 2015 which will be hosted by the Malaysian Bar volleyball team in Kuala Lumpur next year.
