On 23 April 2020, the Court of Appeal conducted its first online hearing which was live-streamed for public viewing, through the Malaysian Judiciary website, its Facebook account and YouTube channel.

In its official media statement on 22 April 2020, the judiciary explained that it launched live streaming of online hearings to ensure continuous access to justice. This move is crucial in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Government imposed Movement Control Order.

The Court of Appeal is also conducting hearings by submissions only via email exchange. The High Court of Malaya is conducting online hearings for urgent matters. As it stands, the judiciary is still in the midst of rolling out the protocols and systems to support the move online.

We at MahWengKwai & Associates applaud this unprecedented step taken by the judiciary. In line with these developments, we have in place the necessary digital tools to conduct online hearings for all of our pending matters.

Watch this space as we continue to bring you more updates on online Court hearings.
